Department of Languages

"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." - C.S Lewis, a British scholar and novelist.

In the era of Informatics and globalization, one has to have a good command over a language for effective communication to achieve anything in the world. We cannot survive without communication with our own species. It is the main tool that is required in good interpersonal relationship.

Language is not a subject; it is a culture which enriches the personality of a man. Language not only develops communication skills but also helps in improving the culture and good qualities and virtues in the students that finally leads to the fine personality development. Language is perhaps the human race's most important invention ever. It allows us to communicate with one another and spread ideas. It allows for organization, monogamous relationships, religion, and science. Without language there would be no way that humans would ever have progressed past the Stone Age.

In India there are many regional Languages such as Telugu, Kannada, Tamil etc… apart from National Language Hindi. In Modern days it becomes a necessity to have multilingual skills as people move to different places for their living hood and life style.

The department of Languages in Aurora’s Degree College has its own quality and style in delivering the subject. All the lecturers of the department are well qualified and trained to fulfill their responsibilities in a better way.

Objectives:

  • Develop sensitivity for literary language.
  • Learn various literary terms and concepts and can be used them in interpreting literary texts.
  • Develop the Communicational skills.
  • Develop understanding of people of other cultures in general and in the particular local settings/issues.
  • Recognize political, social, economical and linguistic factors that influence components of the Language and the culture.
  • Understand the Historical, social, political and cultural context of literary woks and apply that knowledge to a literary analysis of those works.
  • To remind ourselves as well as our students the greatness of our traditions
  • To enable the students to learn a new language other than English. So as to remain connected with our roots, our mother tongue and our regional languages.
  • To see to it that Indian languages do not die. Due to the excessive importance being given to English.
  • To see that they have the knowledge of at least one foreign language. So that they are competent enough to face the world of today.
  • To make the student comfortable not only in his or her motherland but to make them feel at home even in foreign lands. By making them fluent in foreign languages.
The main focus of the Language department has always been to ignite the love and respect towards our Indian culture and traditions. The languages department has shouldered the responsibility of conserving our identity as Indians In terms of thought, way of life and social etiquette. It is really sad that the Indian culture so sought after by the foreigners may lose its identity forever .So keeping essentially this point in view the department of languages undoubtedly has an indisputable supremacy over the rest of the departments. As it’s first and foremost duty is to develop an individual having a full-fledged personality. In other words a global citizen who is not only equipped with all the technical knowhow but who is also sensitive towards cultural etiquettes and love for his country.
