Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell (SEDG)

The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell (SEDG) at Aurora’s Degree & PG College is established to support students from economically weaker sections, marginalized communities, and socially disadvantaged groups. The cell works to ensure equitable access to education, resources, and opportunities, in line with the college’s commitment to social justice and inclusiveness.

The cell functions in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and state educational authorities to promote academic support, mentorship, and empowerment for underprivileged students.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the SEDG Cell are to:

  • Facilitate academic and financial support for students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Ensure equitable access to scholarships, government schemes, and institutional resources.
  • Promote mentoring, counseling, and skill development initiatives.
  • Conduct awareness programs to educate students about rights, scholarships, and social welfare schemes.
  • Encourage active participation and inclusion in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Functions and Activities

The SEDG Cell undertakes the following functions:

  • Identify students from economically weaker and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Guide students in accessing scholarships, fellowships, and financial aid programs.
  • Organize mentorship, skill development, and remedial coaching programs.
  • Conduct awareness workshops on social justice, affirmative action, and government schemes.
  • Collaborate with other institutional cells, such as Equal Opportunity Cell and Grievance Redressal Cell, for holistic support.
